Homosexuality according to the Bible

by crux22. April 2014 11:49

I grew up in the late sixties and early seventies. I had never heard of homosexuality or being gay. The first time I had ever heard of gay being used outside of joyful was on AM radio and I had no idea what they were talking about. I do not have anything against homosexuals on a personal level and any that I have met have been very nice people. The problem I have is with a national agenda to promote the practice as a normal behavior and the demonization of anyone who does not agree. We have all seen the signs “live and let live,” but when it comes to Christians teaching their children that homosexuality is sin the homosexual community is up in arms and in your face over it. We are also being told that we must redefine the meaning of marriage in order to correct a supposed social injustice when it comes to legal benefits. Because of this battle against the teachings of Christianity we as Christian must defend the faith and do it with love.
Is it Normal?
Consider the fact that everyone on this planet came about by the unification of an egg from a female and semen from a male. So, from the very base we see that the design is for a male and female to join. Next we see that both male and female are made for each other. In other words they can marry. The World English dictionary defines marry as

4.to unite closely or intimately
5.to fit together or align (two things); join

So the male and female align, couple, fit, or marry and can produce offspring. Homosexuals cannot align, couple, fit, or marry unless you are willing to pervert the meaning of the definition. It is in fact error with respect to reproduction. After all we are talking about the use of the reproductive organs not just a physical attraction.
What about those that say we see it occurring in nature? We see animals stealing each other’s food should we call it normal to steel from others? We don’t because it is considered immoral and it harms the one being victimized. But what about stealing from the rich they can afford to lose some of their wealth can’t they? Our morals tell us that it is not right, at least they should.
What does God’s word say?
Let’s look at the Old Testament.

Leviticus 18:22 “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.”

Leviticus 20:13 “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be on them.”

Clearly, it is condemned in the law but some will say we are to follow the Old Testament law and that is true of Christians. So what does the New Testament have to say about it?

Romans 1:27 “And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.”

1 Timothy 1:8-11 “Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, 9understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, 10the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine, 11in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted.”

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 “9Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men 10nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.”

Now some have argued that the Greek wording is not addressing Homosexuality, so let’s look at that word, arsenokoites means a male engaging in same-gender sexual activity; a sodomite, pederast. It occurs twice in the New Testament. In Timothy it is described as sexually immoral. or porneia, meaning fornication, whoredom or metaphorically idolatry in some cases. It is generally speaking, sexual immorality and in the case of idolatry it is not the worship of idols as some would have you believe, it is an adulterous relationship with God. A person claiming to be a Christian but deliberately living a life opposed to God might be described by this word. Both times homosexuality (arsenokoites) is used it is in conjunction with condemning other sins along with sexual immorality (Porneia). Jesus condemned sexual immorality,

Mathew 15:19-20 “19For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20These are what defile a person; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile them.”

Clearly even in the New Testament this practice is condemned. How else would you explain that it is always associated with other sins?
